Leyton Sixth Form College

The London School of Business and Management (LSBM) is delighted to be working in partnership with Leyton Sixth Form College (LSC), in East London; a college rated ‘Good’ in each of its last three OFSTED inspections.

We were pleased to announce the latest Leyton-LSBM Scholarship winners in May 2018, with Leyton Sixth Form College student Tiarnan McMahon and Henna Mahmood both looking forward to joining us in October 2018 to study law.

This builds on our successful ongoing partnership with Leyton that has already been active for a number of years.

Leyton Sixth Form College offers a range of Level 3 courses to a diverse pool of students in the local community and beyond and the partnership pushes forward our widening participation agenda, by providing more LSC students with the opportunity of university level education.

Under the partnership, LSBM have put a number of initiatives in place for LSC students. First, LSBM designed and delivered a tailored masterclass programme in October-November 2016 for Year 13 LSC students studying BTEC Level 3 qualifications. The programme aimed to provide students with more information about how to apply for university; guidance on the difference between Further and Higher Education; and gave students a chance to attend a taster session delivered by our lecturers in either Business and Accounting or Law. The programme received very strong feedback from LSC students; participants* found the programme useful and said that they were better prepared for university next year as a result.

Kevin Watson, Principal at Leyton Sixth Form College, had this to say about the benefits of the relationship with LSBM at a ceremony on 22 June 2017 at the campus in Leyton to mark the awarding of the first two Leyton-LSBM Scholarship Awards:

“Business is one of our most popular subjects and a great many students have benefited from the academic support gained through the masterclasses provided by LSBM. Helpful insights have also been given as to the nature of Business degree courses and the higher education experience. The generous bursaries presented tonight are the icing on a sizeable cake.”

Here is a video that features footage from the awards ceremony and also discusses the many benefits of the Leyton / LSBM Partnership.

LSC students can further benefit from the partnership via an exclusive and newly created scholarship scheme, the Leyton-LSBM Scholarship Award. The scheme is a joint initiative between LSC and LSBM. There are two scholarship places available for LSC students starting courses at LSBM in September. The two students who receive the scholarship will receive a £3,000 deduction on their year 1 course fees at LSBM. The scheme is valued at between £9,000 and £12,000 for each of the students who receive the scholarship! Full details of the scheme are guidance on how to apply are available here.

In addition to the new scholarship scheme, LSBM have introduced a new Travel Bursary Scheme. LSC is our first academic partner to join the scheme. The Travel Bursary Scheme offers LSC students who live in Zone 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 with a travel bursary of £341.40 per year. For other colleges and sixth forms in London interested in participating in the scheme, please email our Head of Student Recruitment and Marketing, Matt Jansen, matt.jansen@lsbm.ac.uk.

The London School of Business and Management look forward to a fruitful and long-lasting partnership with Leyton Sixth Form College, which benefits students in the East London Community for many years to come.

We welcomed our first group of LSC students to LSBM in September 2017, and look forward to continuing the tradition by welcoming Tiarnan and Henna to study Law with us in October 2018.
