The ICAEW Advantage!

Usha Mistry

"This new partnership with ICAEW adds to our existing partnership with ACCA, CIMA, CILEx and CMi.

ICAEW is the oldest renowned accounting professional body dating back to 1880, whilst ACCA dates back to 1904 and CIMA 1919 respectively.

What does this mean for LSBM and its students - it means further opportunity of exemptions for the accounting and financial management degree and professional development of our students."

- Usha Mistry, Course Leader, BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management course

LSBM was pleased to announce on 20 June 2018 that it is now a Partner in Learning with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

There are over 1.7m chartered accountants and students around the world − talented, ethical and committed professionals who use their expertise to ensure we have a successful and sustainable future.

Over 150,000 of these are ICAEW Chartered Accountants, who are trained, developed and supported so that they have the knowledge and values to help build local and global economies that are sustainable, accountable and fair.

This new partnership has some very specific advantages and benefits for LSBM students and teachers:

Available to Partners in Learning on the ICAEW Website:
  • ACA student exam resources
  • ICAEW CFAB student exam resources
  • Partner in Learning exam resources
  • Partner in Learning guidelines, forms and Ts&Cs
  • Permitted texts
  • Exams information, including exam dates and deadlines
  • Updates on computer-based exams
  • Student magazine

Learning Materials

ICAEW take pride in the fact that they publish their own learning materials. Each year they are reviewed and approved by their examiners, and provide clear guidance on the way in which the syllabus learning outcomes are tested in the exams.ICAEW - Partner in Learning

Occasionally there is a need to extend a syllabus and therefore learning materials, for example with additional Finance Acts. This will be communicated via the ICAEW website, and through your accounting tutors at LSBM.

The ICAEW CFAB and ACA learning materials comprise of a study pack for each module which contains the following:

  • a study manual providing comprehensive coverage of all examinable topics. Interactive and self-test questions throughout for revision of the topics in each chapter; and
  • a question bank containing exam-standard questions for revision practice.

The Case Study is the only exception, and it has:
  • a study manual; two past case studies, including exam paper, marks key and workbook; and a past exam walkthrough.

Online Student Exam Resources

The online student exam resources are key for both LSBM teaching staff and our students. When a student successfully registers with ICAEW, they are given password-restricted access to online exam resources which include the following:

  • Syllabus and skills development grid
  • Study guides
  • Sample exams
  • Sample e-assessments
  • Errata for the learning materials
  • Past exams and mark plans
  • Webinars
  • Vital articles

As an ICAEW Partner in Learning, our staff can access everything our students can. In addition, they can also access the following via the Partner in Learning area of the ICAEW website:

  • Extra marks plans for past exam papers. These are an extra resource developed specifically for Partners in Learning. They go into more detail than the mark plans available to students.
  • Electronic question banks (EQBs) for all modules excluding Case Study. These are extra questions that are not included in the question banks or mock exams. They are not exam-standard but are provided in Word so LSBM tutors can create progress tests/mock exams.
  • Mock exams. ICAEW produce two mock exams per exam session for all Professional and Advanced Level modules, excluding the Case Study.
  • Notes from past tutor ICAEW conferences. This is an annual event where Partners in Learning can attend examiner-led workshops on each Professional and Advanced Level module.

Woman Thinking

These extra resources mean that LSBM accounting teaching staff can now draw on an even wider network of resources (in addition to those we already have available from our longstanding partnerships with ACCA and CIMA), that can assist them to improve our teaching even more than currently.

It is exciting to have these additional resources as a new Partner in Learning with the ICAEW, which also includes tutor alerts so that the most up-to-date accounting practices are always presented to our students.

The ICAEW have more information here. We also have a special section on our website about ICAEW Partner in Learning, which will be updated as new resources and information become available.

You can learn more about our Accounting Courses here.
