LSBM takes Pride in London

09 Jul 2018

LSBM participated in Pride in London on Saturday 7th July with countless staff and students turning up to march through central London alongside over 500 LGBTQA parade groups and 30,000 others, with hundreds of thousands more lining the streets, to celebrate diversity.

Student President, Delon Jones (far left) who was a proud part of the sizable LSBM contingent commented:

"We were joined at Pride by the Commonwealth Youth and Gender Equality Network (CYGEN), which has as it's aim to build a network of young people from across the Commonwealth who can collaborate and share good practice in their work. Together, we marched under the motto of 'Look to the world with love and respect which has no Borders', and I'm reminded of the words of John F. Kennedy, 'If we cannot now end our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity'. Todays event was both an inspiring reminder of those principles and a lot of fun!"

The day was blessed with sunshine as the LSBMers met at our 99 Gower Street building at midday, before heading off for the Portland Place starting point and moving down Oxford Circus, along Regent Street to Piccadilly Circus, through Lower Regent Street, Pall Mall and then passed Trafalgar Square before finishing on Whitehall.

The Pride in London Parade had the following aims:

"To provide a platform for every part of London’s LGBT+ community to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues and campaign for the freedoms that will allow us to live our lives on a genuinely equal footing. It gives us a chance to be visible and speak loudly to the rest of the world about what we have achieved, how far we have come and what is still needed."

After the march, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Alexandra Burke entertained crowds in Trafalgar Square, while thousands more took to the streets of Soho for informal celebrations.

We would like to thank all staff and students who attended.

Happy Pride from the London School of Business and Management!
