LSBM Graduation Ceremony 2017 - From 'Graduands' to 'Graduates'

24 Nov 2017

Congratulations to the LSBM Graduating Class of 2017 who were warmly welcomed to Senate House on Friday 24 Nov 2017 to celebrate their achievement with family, friends and the LSBM faculty.

This year we were pleased to have a packed hall of graduating students, friends and family attending the ceremony personally to receive their awards, who were among the 240 students being conferred an award today.

The students started the ceremony as 'Graduands' (which sounds like a spelling mistake! But which is actually defined as, 'a person who is about to receive an academic degree') and ended as 'Graduates'.

The ceremony celebrated the awarding of the BA (Hons) Business Management, LLB (Hons) Law, HND in Business, BSc Business Computing Systems (Top-up) and the Master of Business Administration (MBA).

It was ably overseen by Master of Ceremonies, Patrica Walker from our Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success (SEWS) team, and included inspiring speeches from Dr Knowledge Mpofu, Course Leader, HND Business, Delon Jones, LSBM Student President, as well as a rousing valedictory address from graduating LLB Law student Faye Al-Hindawi.

Thank you to all of them for helping to inspire everyone in the room.

These events are always special occasions. They mark a transition point where students become graduates and a world of opportunity opens up before them.

Moving from 'Graduand' to 'Graduate' is not just word-play. It denotes a change that is significant. As Faye said in her speech, only around 7% of the world's population has a college degree, and so it is an event that is worthy of celebration.

As Cal Courtney, Director, Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success put it in the programme for the event:

"The vision of who we can be starts in the imagination and comes to life through the actions we take to build ourselves and rebuild ourselves again and again throughout our lives. Successful lives need both imagination and action. These are the two faces on the coin of success."

Today marks both a beginning of that process and an acknowledgement of a great achievement.

Don't be strangers!

We would LOVE for all of our alumni to feel that they are part of a wider LSBM family and that wherever the winds may take you, that you will always find a warm welcome with us.

So please do stay in touch and email our Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success team at if there is something we can help you with.

Well done to everyone in the graduating class of 2017 and best wishes from everyone at LSBM.
