Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition

Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition

The Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition is a multi-stakeholder partnership involving the Member States, companies, social partners, NGOs and educational establishments of the European Union. It is designed to help meet the high demand for digital skills in Europe which are essential in today's digital society and economy.

The goals of the combination of all initiatives in the Coalition are, by 2020, to:

  • Train 1 million young unemployed people for vacant digital jobs through internships/traineeships, apprenticeships and short-term training programmes.
  • Support the upskilling and retraining of the workforce and in particular, take concrete measures to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who face specific challenges in attracting and retaining digital talent as well as retraining their workforce.
  • Modernise education and training to provide all students and teachers with the opportunity to use digital tools and materials in their teaching and learning activities and to develop and upgrade their digital skills.
  • Reorient and make use of available funding to support digital skills and carry out awareness-raising about the importance of digital skills for employability, competitiveness and participation in society.

As members of the coalition, LSBM is pleased to endorse the objectives and principles of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition Charter and take pride that we are making a contribution to boosting digital skills among our students.

LSBM has always been at the forefront of digital initiatives in higher education, and our Academic Lead for Teaching and Learning, Geraldine Murphy, whose leadership led us to apply for the membership, is helping to shape the teaching and learning vision at LSBM.

She has been a driving force behind encouraging a forward thinking approach to the important role that Learning Technologists can play in enhancing the academic experience at LSBM, and expressed her delight at being approved as a member of a coalition which seeks to further enhance the technological creativity and skills base of our students and the wider community.

Geraldine had this to say about our membership of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition:

I am so pleased to be a part of such a positive movement. It is our focus within LSBM to develop and grow work-ready young individuals that fulfil their potential. It is important to us that our students graduate with skills and experiences that enrich them and that they are proud of. Digital Literacy is really important to us and this really underpins what we do here at LSBM from our curriculum to our student support.
